DAINI (1976)

'Daini' is a story about two teachers, Apruba Chabha and Malati who are in love with each other. When Jibon Kalita returns from abroad Malati is attracted towards him. Apurba goes to a village on election work where he meets Padumi,who the villagers belive is a witch. They decide to get married but he falls sick and is affected by typhoid. Padumi decides to treat him.When Malati hears about all this, she comes to Apurba but it is too late. The simplicity of mankind and how they resort to superstitious beliefs is revealed in this novel.
