AAI (1960)

'Aai' is Dr.Bhattacharyya's second novel. In this novel, the Assamese village scene is vividly picturised. How the poor landless farmers are being abused and ashamed by the Mahajan is being described. The conflict between the new generation and the old generation following age old customs as intercaste marriage,farmers sons resorting to being the rickshaw pullers makes Aai very sentimental and the main theme of the novel. The story Basa's family, the saints family, the priests family, old 'Bhakat's' family all contribute to voice feelings in the novel.
