PRATIPAD (1970)

'Pratipad' is based on labour movement at Assam's Digboi refinery during pre-independent India. How the British officers used force,terror exploitation against the labourers. The labourers all manage to get united to fight against the injustice meted out to them by the British officers. All sections irrespective of caste,religion and creed as Giazuddin,Naseeruddin,Jaibun Nina,Chandi, Barua,Chatterji,Durga,Bodhan,Mabugh,Laxmi,Panna,Nayanmoni,Miss Fleming all unitedly take active part in the labour movement against the inhuman attitude of the Britishers. The feelings of the suppressed labourers are all expressed throughout the novel in the form of conversation amongst them. There is no hero nor any form of heroism in this novel. This novel is said to be the first Assamese novel based on thelabour movement with expressions fitting in the modern era.
